You buy prepaid credit and spend it on jobs: transcription and translation. A quoted price is the price you pay. A failed job costs nothing. Unused paid credit is refunded on request. You must have the right to every recording you submit.
Verbatim is operated by Lukus Reindl, a sole proprietor based in Iowa, USA. These terms are an agreement between you and Lukus Reindl, trading as Verbatim. “We” means Verbatim; “you” means the person or organisation using it.
Notices and questions go to support@verbatim.sh. That is the address for everything, including legal notices.
Verbatim turns audio into text (transcription) and text into another language (translation). Each one is a job: you submit it, it runs, and it is charged from your credit. You can use Verbatim in a browser, or from an AI assistant connected to your account.
Quotes. Before a job runs, it is quoted from the published rates. The quoted price is the price you pay; it is not revised later. A file whose length cannot be measured is priced when it finishes, from the length the transcription reports.
Funding. Submitting a job needs a positive balance. A job’s price is set aside from your balance while it runs.
Failed jobs. A job that fails is not charged. Its price returns to your balance automatically.
Credit is prepaid. You buy it in fixed packages through a checkout run by Link (a Stripe company) as the merchant of record. Link sells you the credit under its own terms, which you accept at checkout, and handles payment and any tax. Your card statement reads LINK.COM* VERBATIM.
Verbatim never sees your card details.
Credit is not a gift card. It cannot be transferred, it has no cash value except by refund to the card that paid for it, and it can only be used on Verbatim.
Prices are published on the site. A new price applies only to jobs quoted after it takes effect.
Failed jobs return their price automatically. There is nothing to ask for.
Unused paid credit is refundable on request, at any time, to the card that paid for it. Email support@verbatim.sh. Credit already spent on completed jobs is not refundable.
Credit does not expire. If an account has no job for 12 months, it is dormant: its remaining paid credit is refunded to the card automatically. Credit we granted you for free is not paid credit, and it is forfeited at that point.
You carry consent. By uploading or submitting audio, you confirm you have the right to: that includes any consent the law requires from the people recorded. Several US states require everyone in a conversation to consent before it is recorded.
You may not submit:
recordings obtained unlawfully;
child sexual abuse material, or anything that sexualises minors;
Your audio, transcripts and translations are yours.
You let us process them to deliver the jobs you ask for: storing them, sending them to the providers that do the work, and showing them back to you. We do not use them for anything else, and we do not sell them.
How we handle them, who processes them, and how to have them deleted is in the Privacy Policy.
Each account can store up to 1 GB of uploaded audio.
Verbatim is provided as it is and as it is available. We do not promise any uptime, and a transcription or translation may contain errors: check anything that matters before you rely on it. We may change, add or remove features. A job you already paid for that we cannot complete fails, and its price returns to your balance.
When these terms change materially (price, refunds or how we use data), we email accounts with a balance or recent jobs at least 14 days before the change takes effect.
Using Verbatim after the effective date means you accept the new terms. Your next sign-in records the version you accepted.
The effective date at the top of this page shows which version is in force.
These terms are governed by the law of Iowa, USA. Any dispute goes to the courts of Iowa, unless the law where you live gives you a right to bring it elsewhere.
